The S.A.F.E. Family program (Smoke Alarms for Every Family) is a province-wide initiative sponsored by the Office of the Fire Commissioner, Red River Mutual, Firefighters Burn Fund and the Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs. The overall goal of Manitoba’s S.A.F.E. Family program is to save lives by protecting every home with working smoke alarms and a practiced fire escape plan.

The S.A.F.E. Family program is FREE to qualified residents to receive:

A 10 year lithium battery operated smoke alarm;
Fire Safety information and
Home Escape Plan Template.

COPP - Citizens on Patrol Program - Carman Dufferin

The Citizens on Patrol Program is a crime prevention initiative where volunteers act as extra "eyes and ears" for their community and local law enforcement. The program improves community safety through deterrence, education and awareness.

Prevent Crimes of Opportunity!

The #9PMRoutine is a nightly habit that encourages residents to take a few minutes at 9 p.m. each evening to secure their homes, property & vehicles against potential crimes.

Key Steps:

Remove valuables from vehicles: This includes items like laptops, phones, wallets, and any other personal belongings that could be attractive to thieves.

Lock your vehicle doors: Ensure all doors are locked securely, even if you're just stepping out for a moment.

Remove keys from outdoor equipment: This includes ATVs, lawnmowers, and other equipment that could be stolen.

Lock all exterior doors: This includes your home's main entrance, back doors, and any other access points.

Turn on exterior lights: This helps to deter criminals and make your property appear well-lit and secure.

Consider other security measures: This could include activating home security systems, putting away bikes, tools and equipment, and securing garage doors.

Why it matters:

Deters opportunity: Many crimes are "crimes of opportunity," meaning they happen because the opportunity is presented. By locking up and securing your property, you reduce that opportunity.

Community awareness: The #9PMRoutine helps raise awareness about the importance of crime prevention and encourages residents to take responsibility for their own safety.

Builds a strong community: When residents participate in the #9PMRoutine, it creates a sense of community and shared responsibility for safety.
